|

Yet again this morning I find cars parked half on the road and half over the footpath this morning in Sudbury Court.
This seems to be happening everywhere in Park Farm. How bloody inconsiderate. What about those with pushchairs and in wheelchairs?
Chris my question.
What can we do about cars parking in such a manner? I rang the council and they didn't appear interested saying that if there are no yellow lines then they couldn't do anything. _________________ Not all car drivers are criminals but most criminals are car drivers. Biscuit. I appreciate your frustration over this matter. You are not alone. Indeed, I have taken two other calls and an email regarding the issue of parking during the last couple of weeks and it has been suggested that I put the issue forward as a consideration at the next neighbourhood policing panel meeting.
To clarify:
Highways are the responsibility of the Highways Dept and as such no one has the right to park a vehicle in any particular spot on the public highway.
The Police or Highways Authority will not act unless the vehicle is actually parked on yellow lines, parked where signs instruct to the contrary or it is causing an obstruction such as you advise by being parked on a footpath or too close to a junction.
NHW has no legal right to instruct a resident how and where to park their vehicles as this is outside of our remit. Where this problem has occurred before my advice has always been as below.
Issues of parking are best resolved in a civil manner by discussion if possible. Failing that please seek advice from your local councillor, the Police or local authority advising that the vehicle/s are actually parked and blocking the footpath in your case. They are duty bound to act.
Hope this helps. _________________ Park Farm NHW

Many have questioned the motive behind such a call being made to the ET in the first place and feel, as do the rest of my team, that such childish jealousy of our schemes success is best ignored. Our time is best used serving our members and I think it is their comments below that are a fitting response to such irresponsible claptrap.
I am really proud since the scheme it started and have great relief you and your team are around. In the past I have been worried about vandals etc but now I feel safe at home and when away I do go to sleep in peace. You know gossip mongers and ideal minds have always to say something about somebody. I am really proud of you and your team. You are doing a wonderful job. Keep it up!!!!
I think you have done a great job with the NHW and long may it continue. We have only lived here for 2 years and this last year has been better than the first with regard noise and kids in park etc. Thankyou.
Thank you so much. You are doing a wonderful job and I am so happy about all the work you are doing. I am sure I will be safe when I am in Peterborough. Good look with all your work and thanks for keeping an eye on my house.
We have now sold our property and I would like to say thank you for your hard work and dedication to improving the Park farm area. We have had problems in the past with issues on the playground with underage drinking, graffiti and general ASB. These problems have been all but stamped out since the neighbourhood watch has been organised and driven by yourself. Once again thank you and keep up the good work.
Once again many thanks for keeping an eye on my house to you and your team. _________________ Park Farm NHW

Further to my last post I have just received a visit from our local PC Ben Duce who has confirmed continued police support for our hi vis patrols. _________________ Park Farm NHW

Chris,
You know that the majority of the community is behind you, so do as you you always do, and ignore them.
It is just another failed attempt to undermine your work by failed people.
They even misprinted the name of the person who called the ET who claimed to be a resident.
The same rubbish from the same rubbish in my opinion.
Keep up the great work ! |

Dear Mr Harper
I live on Oakdale Avenue and have friends and neighbours here and in other parts of Stanground and Fletton. We're always reading about and admire your scheme for what it stands for but have noticed that your website doesn't include our roads. Can we join your scheme or is this not allowed? There are signs up on some roads in Stanground but they don't seem to exist anymore or at least my friends don't hear or receive anything. _________________ Doh! |

I can't comment or advise about the failings as you don't state exactly where your friends live. May I suggest you take these up with the coordinators of the scheme/s involved if indeed they still exist. The Police can advise of any coordinators/schemes in your area.
The roads we cover were agreed with the police at our launch and expansion would require their permission so perhaps you can let me have the roads you're referring to. Please contact me direct by email with this information. Best not post it here.
chris@park-farm.org.uk
or you can call me on 07939 664788
Even if we can't accomodate you and your friends directly into our scheme we would be keen to help and support you with setting up your own after having already done this in Hampton and in the Fens. You are of course more than welcome to visit our NHW website to keep up to date.
Thanks for your comments by the way. They are much appreciated. _________________ Park Farm NHW

Does anyone seem to know which schemes are active and which are not ?
I have seen very old signs up in and around Stanground, but don't know if the schemes are still running or not.
You say that the police have a list of the roads that you cover, does that also mean that they have a full list of all schemes in operation ? |

Hi Badgerman. It depends on ones understanding of the word 'active'?
All live schemes are required by the Police and the NHW Association to provide details of their current membership limited to the house numbers or house names and roads only.
If you contact Chrissie Bridge at Hampton Police Station on 01733-248819 she can advise of live schemes at the last survey in your area and the coordinator contact.
If however your question is whether a live scheme is actually 'active in the community' then your best bet is to speak to your neighbours. If they think not then it is likely they are not I'm afraid and your best bet then is to join a different scheme or set up your own.
Hope this helps. _________________ Park Farm NHW

I have just come from a meeting with Inspector Whyte who has confirmed his support for our hi vis patrols. I hope this finally answers any doubts of the police's stance on this issue. _________________ Park Farm NHW
